Every year, the university's Finance & Administration Division
Employee Recognition Program (ERP) awards one Employee of the Year
winner for each of its three divisions (Engineering & Facilities,
Finance and Operations).
The winners are selected by the Rewards & Recognition
Committee from all Employee of the Quarter winners from the preceding
fiscal year. Each winner received a certificate, pillar and monetary
award during the Aug. 1 Employee Appreciation Celebration.
Employees of the Year
Suzanne Bean (Finance)
Suzanne Bean
“When Suzanne took on a new position in our payroll department, she
inherited a very large and old insurance reconciliation. She developed
a way to “work” the old items and clear them in the fastest and most
efficient way. She shared her ideas with management and co-workers. She
was able to reconcile two years worth of insurance discrepancies in a
two month time frame. This allowed us to collect premiums owed by
departments and employees.”
Nominated by Angela Alford, fiscal manager
Stacey Haney (Operations)
Stacey Haney
“Working in the Workers' Compensation department requires one to wear
many hats: initiating claims, scheduling appointments, handling
temporary disability issues, assisting managers and injured workers,
ergonomic evaluations and billing issues, to name just a few. In
addition to these duties, Stacey accepted the responsibility of working
with the MUSC OCIO to develop an online injury reporting system. This
took many days and repeated tests.”
Nominated by Nancy P. Sifford, manager, Risk Management
Clifford Gibbs, Jacob Prevost, Allen Taylor and Joshua Turner (Engineering & Facilities)
Engineering
& Facilities' Joshua Turner, from left, Allen Taylor, Clifford
Gibbs and Jacob Prevost receive the Employees of the Year for the team
category. The recipients received a certificate, pillar and monetary
award during the Aug. 1 Employee Appreciation Celebration.
The
team award was given due to an event that occurred on Friday afternoon,
Jan. 16. On that day, a fuel tank for an emergency generator in the
Hollings Cancer Center overflowed. Clifford Gibbs, Jacob Prevost, Allen
Taylor and Joshua Turner stayed late helping to coordinate clean-up
efforts. These employees were selfless in their efforts trying to
mitigate the damage done to the lobby furniture, computers, and medical
file folders on the floor below. Their unselfish contributions of
manpower and teamwork helped MUSC save a lot of valuable assets, not to
mention a lot of money.
Cindy Garmon PEER of the Year
The university's F&A Division PEER Postcard Program awards the
Cindy Garmon PEER of the Year winner from all PEER postcard recipients
received during the preceding fiscal year. The postcard is a cumulative
program. Once an employee reaches the maximum number of postcards per
fiscal year (24), the employee becomes eligible for the Cindy Garmon
PEER of the Year Award. If however, a recipient does not reach the
maximum number of postcards, the employee with the highest number of
eligible postcards is named the winner.
Lynn A. Chajewski, Student Accounting (Finance)
Chajewski
received the highest number of PEER postcards for fiscal year 2009.
Excerpts of the comments made by her fellow employees include: “Lynn
volunteered to exceed normal job duties and meticulously review '09
billing tables for A/R code charge accurately; volunteered to
administer the department “WINS” bulletin board and events; completed
NSG reconciliations during month and year end close-out; used AIDET
when helping a student resolve a financial issue; and on and on and on.”
Employee of the Quarter nominee for July
Michael Bouissey, Parking Management
Bouissey
received a personal invitation to attend the monthly event at
which time the first quarterly winners will be announced.
The winners for the 2010 Employee of the First (fiscal year) Quarter
will be selected by the Rewards & Recognition Committee from the
eligible nominations received for July, August and September.
The winner will be announced at the Oct. 21 Employee Appreciation Event.
