Lunchtime program emphasizes change



Lunchtime Losers, a new lunchtime program, is offered by MUSC weight loss professionals—dietitians, psychologists, and exercise physiologists—and emphasizes lifestyle changes that you can actually sustain after completing  the program.  
 
Lunchtime Losers is a 10-week program that willconsist of a one-hour weekly meetings during lunchtime. It will emphasizes healthy eating,exercise, and other healthy lifestyle habits. The entire program is $98 and payroll deduction is available.
 
The program begins Sept. 17 and participants can register by e-mailing health1st@musc.edu.
 
Why consider a healthier lifestyle? The reasons are many, but the table below, created by Dr. Steven Aldana, author of “Culprit and the Cure,” may help explain.  Aldana is an expert in the wellness field. He has generalized findings from many studies showing possible extra years lived depending on how you live your life:
People Who                                          May live an extra   
Are vegetarian............................................1.5 years   
Exercise regularly........................................2.4 years   
Eat nuts five times a week...........................2.5 years  
 Have normal blood pressure......................3.7 years   
Are not diabetic..........................................6.6 years   
Maintain a normal weight.............................11 years

Health screenings, assessments
Detect health problems during their early stages. Screenings and assessments help reveal your strengths and weaknesses as well as direct you toward behaviors to better your health.
 
Screenings and assessments include a worksite screening scheduled for Sept 24 and a mammography screening for Oct 21. To register for the screenings, visit http://mcintranet.musc.edu/health1st/.
