Relief for Haiti

Dear Friends and Colleagues
As relief efforts continue in response to the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on Jan. 12, we are reminded that the need for immediate and basic human services is unrelenting and persistent. The country faces a humanitarian disaster difficult to comprehend, and although the world is trying to respond as quickly as possible, more help is needed specifically in the form of monetary donations to save lives now and in the long-term.

As professionals in the medical, health, academic, and research fields we are associated by the Medical University; and, we are connected by hope, compassion, and optimism in the future.

In response to this crisis, the Medical University has established the MUSC Haiti Relief Fund at the Coastal Community Foundation to aid in the relief efforts. Please join me in making a donation to the MUSC Haiti Relief Fund at http://www.razoo.com/organization/Coastal-Community-Foundation-Of-South-Carolina. You may designate that your donation is for the MUSC Haiti Relief Fund.

Another way to help is to make monetary donations directly to reputable organizations that are experienced in disaster relief and have a presence in the country. Among the many excellent agencies providing these services are the following nonprofit organizations:
American Jewish World Service; American Red Cross (click on the link or text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10); Catholic Relief Services; Clinton Bush Haiti Fund (click on the link or text “HAITI” to 20222 to donate $10); International Orthodox Christian Charities; National Nurses United; The Salvation Army;
Save the Children (click on the link or text “SAVE” to 20222 to donate $10);  UNICEF;
UN World Food Programme (click on the link or text “FRIENDS” to 90999 to donate $5); or
Water Missions International.

Thank you for your compassionate response to this international community crisis.

Respectfully,

Raymond S. Greenberg, MD, PhD
President
