Health 1st

Lung health day
Join the American Lung Association in its mission to save lives by promoting lung health and preventing lung disease by participating in the Fight for Air Run/Walk Oct. 30 at the Edwin S. Taylor Pier on Folly Beach. Food will be provided after the 5K.

The average adult takes 15 to 20 breaths a minute—more than 20,000 breaths a day. The respiratory system, which includes the nose, throat, windpipe and lungs, brings air into the body with each breath. In the lungs, the oxygen from each breath is transferred to the bloodstream and sent to all the body’s cells as life-sustaining fuel.

For information on lung health and the walk, stop by the Wellness Wednesday table from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in the university hospital near Starbucks or visit
