                           University F&A
Employees recognized for commitment

At the end of each fiscal year, the Finance & Administration Rewards and Recognition Committee selected one employee to be named Employee of the Year and one employee as the Cindy Garmon PEER of the Year. The winners were presented with a personalized plaque and monetary award during the Annual Employee Appreciation Celebration. The next employee appreciation event will be held Nov. 17.

Angie Crystal Brown and Nehemiah Godfrey II

Employee of the Year
Nehemiah Godfrey II, Physical Plant
His nomination read in part: “Nehemiah went above and beyond his responsibilities to correct a roof leak at the “Pink House” and in doing, saved the university more than $40,000. Responding to a routine leak service call, he found the roof to be in non-patchable condition. Through the building engineer, roof replacement was planned and requested as a capital project. Roof replacement by a contractor was deferred more than a year due to lack of funding, so Nehemiah took it upon himself to take a hydrostop roofing class. He obtained approval from his supervisor to proceed with application of the hydrostop roofing system. He then prepared the roof and applied a hydrostop roofing system (foundation, cloth, and finish coats) to the upper roof.  He had the hydrostop representative come out to inspect his work at two points to obtain a 10 year materials warranty. The job ended up being under $12,000, compared to $55,000 planned for roof replacement as a capital project by a contractor.

Cindy Garmon PEER of the Year
Angelin (Angie) Crystal Brown, Parking Management
Her nomination read in part: “Angie handles guest parking in Parking Management. In many cases, she is the first contact that guests have when they come to MUSC. Here are just a few of the comments made by visitors and employees: ‘Angie is polite, prompt and gives efficient service at all times; excellent customer service, a friendly smile and a great attitude; fantastic attitude and assistance to a new employee; she remembered me after one year and remembered that my husband has Alzheimer’s; made our visits enjoyable and kept us laughing. Give her a raise!’

Most of the excerpts are from visitors trying to find parking or new employees meeting her for the first time.”
