Pastoral staff presents Caring Spirit Award

The MUSC Pastoral Care Staff presented its 4th annual Caring Spirit Award to Luc Gagne, R.N.

The award is presented in conjunction with national Pastoral Care Week to honor a faculty or staff member for demonstrating commitment and support.

The Caring Spirit Award recognizes:
  • Spiritual care of patients and families
  • Support of the MUSC Pastoral Care mission
  • Effort to foster community among clergypersons and hospital staff
Chaplin Terry Wilson, left, presents Luc Gagne with his Caring Spirit Award.

Terry Wilson, staff chaplain and manager, said that Gagne demonstrates the expertise and qualities of an exceptional nurse by offering patients and their families the best of care.

“Luc sees the person and not just the patient. He is a nurse who continually provides excellent care that includes incorporating chaplains and spiritual care into the patient and family plan of care for some of MUSC’s most critically ill patients.”
At the presentation, chaplains shared that Gagne consistently provides referrals to chaplains while proactively assessing and reassessing the religious needs of the patient and family. It is appreciated by the chaplain staff that Gagne recognizes the delicate and sometimes difficult issues around end-of-life care while being supportive of patient and family personal decisions regarding medical care.

Chaplain George Rossi added, “Luc has a deep appreciation for the diversity of religion that manifests itself in our patient population.”
