University F&A
Employees recognized for commitment

The university’s Finance & Administration Division celebrated its Employee Appreciation Event April 21 to recognize staff from the Engineering & Facilities, Finance, and Operations departments who were nominated during the past quarter for their commitment to MUSC Excellence.

Each quarter employees with qualifying nominations for the Employee Recognition Program during the preceding three months are recognized at the event with an MUSC Excellence gift. The nominations must exhibit outstanding work-related behavior or activities relating to the five Pillars of Excellence (people, service, quality, finance and growth).

Employee of the Quarter winners
Paul Hunt, Carpenter Shop (Engineering & Facilities)
“Paul and I have worked together for the last 20 years. I have always been impressed with Paul’s interest in the safety of MUSC employees. Recently I was working with Paul on an indoor air quality project trying to identify the source of mold that was negatively impact-ing employees in the Dialysis Unit. We repaired leaking water lines, cleaned and replaced cabinets that had been wet by the leaking pipes and removed dry wall that had been wet. Airborne mold levels were still above normal.  Without asking, Paul crawled under the  building and located several steam leaks and floor penetrations into the Dialysis Unit. The steam leaks were fixed; penetrations sealed and associated cabinets replaced. The airborne mold levels are now normal and employees are no longer experiencing signs and symptoms of mold exposure. Paul is a great example of MUSC Excellence.
Nominated by Joe Avant, Program Manager, University Risk Management

Donna Rychwa, Controller’s Office/Payroll Services (Finance)
“Donna started with MUSC in the payroll department 1½ years ago and has helped improve the department’s efficiencies, better organize work flow, and created many process improvements.  Her collection efforts on payroll overpayments has saved the university thousands of dollars. Donna always provides excellent customer service to our internal and external customers and is lifted up on a regular basis. Donna is always willing to go the extra mile to help an employee or co-worker.  She can often be seen walking a lost employee to the desired department or taking an employee’s paycheck to them across campus. Upon Donna’s suggestions and ideas, payroll has implemented several new procedures that have improved our processes. We now have numerous reports that are generated to monitor discrepancies so that payroll can be proactive and correct issues before running payroll.  Donna has been and continues to be a huge asset to the payroll department and to MUSC. I would like to recognize her for doing great work and representing the true meaning of MUSC Excellence.
Nominated by Angela Alford, Manager, Payroll Services

Kenya Fludd, Mail Services (Operations)
“Kenya Fludd is frequently called upon by customers and peers alike for advice in matters relating to mail distribution and postal processing.  Kenya spent time learning and studying to attain an in-depth working knowledge of the highly intricate mail management system. She is constantly on task but is never too busy to take the time to explain an operational procedures or equipment operation to another member of the staff. Her ability gives supervisors the flexibility to spontaneously respond in matters related to changing day to day operations. She is considered highly qualified by her peers as a postage meter technician.  I appreciate her ability to perform complex mail metering operation and the level of detail she commands to correctly assign postage based on weight, size and dimension. She sets the example and makes herself a technical source of information; she has helped influence others to higher technical achievement and development.
Nominated by  Roy Dingle, Support & Contract Services Manager, Business Services
