Meet...Dick

Name: Richard Swaja, Ph.D.

Department: Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology

How long at MUSC: 4 years

Favorite TV show: “Seinfeld”—I still watch the reruns.

A unique talent you have:  I like sports, and I still play basketball although both feet don’t always leave the ground simultaneously when I take a jump shot.

Bad habit: I need to learn to say “no” more often.

Meal you love to cook: I’m a much better eater than a cook.  I like almost everything, especially  “bar” food —barbeque, burgers, and pizza.

Most embarrassing moment: The first time I gave a talk at a scientific conference, I opened with a joke and nobody laughed except one person—a colleague who laughed because nobody else did.

What do you do on a rainy day: Play the piano—everything from oldies to top 40 to acid rock

Activity you do that never gets old: Going to live entertainment—concerts, plays and musicals

Greatest moment in your life: My wife and I going to dinner with our sons and them paying

Favorite quote: “It’s always something. It’s never nothing.”
