IOP nurse is DAISY winner

The MUSC DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award for Nurses is a monthly award and is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The foundation was formed in January 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.

The DAISY winner for June is Annette Kimberly McCall, R.N., Institute of Psychiatry. McCall was nominated by Meredith Lyons-Crews.

Her nomination reads in part: “Ms. McCall works with a youth psychiatric day treatment program that provides treatment for teens who have significant be-havioral and emotional difficulties. She is the milieu manager of the program and provides an excellent role model for all staff on how to interface with teens who are struggling not only with the developmental tasks of adolescence but also mental illness, substance abuse, trauma, and chaotic family situations. She is calm and patient in the face of impulsive aggression, elopement, inappropriate language, and other behaviors and situations that can be more than challenging. She assists other staff in processing interactions with the patients and supports them in providing consistency and therapeutic re-sponses. She provides a nice balance between structure and limits and nurturing.”
