MUSC, DISC partner to bring outpatient MRI to East Cooper

East Cooper patients now have a convenient choice when it comes to receiving magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) services through an affiliation between MUSC and DISC Radiologists MRI facility in Mount Pleasant.
This MUSC-based MRI facility provides quick access to diagnostic imaging services within a small office setting. The facility is managed and owned by Richard C. Holgate, M.D., and is considered the oldest independent MRI practice in South Carolina. Holgate works closely with his diagnostic team and clinical staff to provide knowledgeable experience, quality services and expert interpretation of all diagnostic imaging. He has more than 40 years experience and has authored more than 50 scientific publications regarding his discipline. All MRI exams are performed by licensed radiology technologists and board certified radiologists.
“The association of DISC Radiology and MUSC is another example of bridge building between academic and private medical practice. The results provide high quality MRI Imaging to patients living in the East Cooper area and their doctors. I’m pleased with the association with MUSC Radiology which provides the most experienced radiologists in musculoskeletal radiology, abdominal MRI radiology and neuroradiology in the state. That expertise is both unequaled and unrivaled,” said Holgate.

“All of our staff have extensive experience in health care and magnetic resonance imaging in outpatient facilities,” Holgate said. “We want our patients to feel like individuals in a comfortable environment, not specimens in a laboratory. And we don’t subscribe to that assembly line mentality of patient care. We are committed to providing our patients with the highest level of care while maintaining a supportive and comfortable environment.”
