SGA president welcomes students to MUSC

by Tyler Pierce
President, MUSC SGA
On behalf of the MUSC Student Government Association (SGA), it is my honor to welcome you to MUSC. Congratulations on all of your hard work that has brought you to this point in your education. This is  an accomplishment that you should be proud of. It is truly an exciting time here at MUSC.

The campus is undergoing changes like the new Ashley River Tower hospital, the continued success of the simulation lab in the College of Nursing, completion of the James B. Edward’s dental school, as well as current construction of the drug discovery and bioengineering facility.  These facilities will provide an environment second to none in our pursuit of academic excellence. Along with excellent facilities, your expectations of a medical university most likely include the rigors of an academic environment; however, we are here to tell you that MUSC has more to offer than just an exceptional education.

The SGA has been working hard to ensure that you have a fulfilling experience during your tenure here.

While at MUSC, the faculty and administration will spend countless hours ensuring you have the best educational experience available. Just as they are devoted to providing superior academic opportunities, the SGA is dedicated to enhancing your life outside the classroom. Throughout the year, we encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities to interact with students from other disciplines and broaden your cultural background, as well as enjoy a little rest and relaxation in the Lowcountry. Whether it is an MUSC happy hour, Spoleto event, Night at the Ballet, or a kayak trip through Shem Creek, you will find something to suit your interests and maybe even discover new ones. In addition, SGA continues to bring you the Back-to-School party, Oyster Roast, Oktoberfest, Art Walk, Wine Tasting and Alhambra.

As the SGA continues to support students socially and culturally, we also work tirelessly to improve your experience in other areas. During the past few years, the SGA has established strong relationships with administrators and continues to strengthen those interactions as it represents the voice of the students to the administration. As your SGA president, I will work hard to ensure that your voice is heard at the university level. However, I can only do this with your help.

Feel free to contact me with suggestions through sga@musc.edu, and stay up to date with what the SGA is doing at http://www.musc.edu/sga. We look forward to hearing your suggestions and working with you as we seek to excel in our service to you and continue to strengthen and improve our university here at MUSC.
