IOP, NAMI to offer free family to family education series


The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the Institute of Psychiatry are sponsoring a free, 11-week educational series titled, Family to Family, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 29.

 

The series is for the families and friends of individuals challenged by severe and persistent mental illness. Family to Family is instructed by trained NAMI mentors who also have family members with a mental illness. 

 

Topics will include understanding mental illness, diagnosis education, medications, communication skills, crisis management, coping skills and relapse prevention. The group will meet each Wednesday from 6 – 8:30 p.m. through Dec. 8. The Institute of Psychiatry will host the program in the 5 North, #526 Class Room. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required.
