Employees honored for commitment


Education and Student Life  honored employees at a recognition program July 28. Employees of the Quarter were Pat Cassano, Benita Schlau, Mary Ellen Lenhardt and Steven Zimmerman. The Employee of the Year was Kevin Smuniewski.

Pat Cassano: “Pat is a strong advocate for the students and graduates. Pat has assumed one of the many key roles in making commencement a success each year. He played a pivotal role in the success of MUSC’s 181st Graduation Ceremony May 21.”

Mary Ellen Lenhardt: “Mary Ellen is as reliable and consistent as they come. She has a wonderful work ethic and has a knack for generating enthusiasm in others. When Mary Ellen talks, people listen.”

Benita Schlau: “When you describe reliable and consistent, you get Benita. Benita consistently goes above and beyond her job responsibilities in order to help the Wellness Center.”

Stephen Zimmerman: “Steve is an incredibly dedicated employee who will do anything necessary to provide support for faculty, staff and students. He has often been cited for his very fast responses to requests for assistance and his friendly, enthusiastic attitude.”

Employee of the Year
Dr. Darlene Shaw, associate provost for education and student life, presents Kevin Smuniewski a check for Employee of the Year.

Kevin Smuniewski: “Kevin embodies the concept of team spirit and student service. He is always willing to go the extra mile to assist anyone. There is never a task too great or small. Kevin is a perfectionist and won’t stop until he gets the job done is right; that’s any and every job. Kevin enjoys being helpful and seeing operations and events be the best they can be.”
