Employee Wellness


MUSC will be joining forces with the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women on Feb. 14 at the Go Red MUSC! to raise awareness about heart disease.

Employees are invited to wear red and celebrate heart month from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the MUSC Wellness Center Gym. Fitness experts and personal trainers will be on hand to provide demonstrations and fitness testing.

MUSC Weight Management Center will conduct body mass index calculations and body composition measurements and offer information about programs. Heart health information will be available from the Seinsheimer Clinic, MUSC Heart Health Program, American Heart Association and MUSC dietitians.

Sinless Raw Food will be selling healthy chocolate and Sweet Treat Grams will be available for purchase and delivery on campus for Valentines Day.

Additional activities include CPR demonstrations, chair massages, cardiovascular risk assessments and healing touch presentations. At noon participants will form a “human heart” for a photo shoot and participate in a short group Zumba dance routine led by fitness expert James Johnson.

  • Mobile mammograms: The Hollings Cancer Center Mobile Van will be conducting mammograms from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 16 next to the Basic Sciences Building loading dock, behind the College of Dental Medicine. Call 792-0878 to schedule an appointment.
  • Discounted state park annual passes: Ranger John Phelps from Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site will be located outside Ashley River Tower cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 16 to sell annual state park passes to employees at a 20 percent discount.   • MUSC dietitian Katherine Boyce will offer “Eat This, Learn That” at noon on Feb. 16 in Room 107 of the Colbert Education Center & Library for the first session of a new Lunch and Learn Series. This educational taste testing will feature Jerk chicken, yucca beans and corn, which is a wellness dish offered in the cafeteria. The session highlights African cuisine in celebration of Black History Month. Space is limited to the first 25 guests. Register with Boyce at nashatke@musc.edu.
  • MUSC Employee Fitness Series: Join fitness expert Katie Blaylock from 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. on Feb. 16 for a free introduction to spin class. This high-intensity cardiovascular workout will include spin-intervals, jumps, sprints and climbs. This class will be held at the MUSC Wellness Center and participants will receive a free day pass to the Wellness Center. E-mail Lauri Barnes at barneslr@musc.edu to register.
  • Worksite screening: The next screening will be held Feb. 17 in Room 322, College of Nursing. The screening is $15 with the State Health Plan and advanced payment is required. Register at http://www.musc.edu/medcenter/health1st.
  • The Trauma Center is looking for MUSC families to serve as models for safety, illustrating the best safety practices. Pictures selected may be used for brochures, health fairs, and educational forums. Interested employees are asked to submit photos to Stephanie Power at Powe@musc.edu. The last day of submission will be Feb. 18.
