CHARLESTON -- On Friday, April 28, the celebration to commemorate the opening of The Storm Eye Institute Feldberg Center for Vision Rehabilitation on Hilton Head Island will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 222 Pembroke Drive, Suite 102, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926.
During the celebration, special guests including MUSC President Ray Greenburg, M.D., Ph.D, will discuss the importance of low vision rehabilitation centers across the state and the impact they have on vision patients who've otherwise been told, ìI'm sorry, but there's nothing we can do.î
Like the Feldberg Center in Charleston, the Hilton Head Feldberg Center specializes in vision rehabilitation for patients with inoperable vision loss from diseases such as glaucoma or age related macular, or due to degeneration or from stroke or trauma. The Feldberg Center model for vision rehabilitation brings together traditional Low Vision Examination and treatment options with specially trained vision rehabilitation therapists - resulting in the most thorough, complete vision rehabilitation clinical program available in South Carolina ìfrom the clinic to the community.î Appointments may be scheduled by calling 843-792-8100.
For those who suffer from low vision, traditional corrective devices such as glasses and contact lenses offer little or no help. The low vision team at the Feldberg Center for Vision Rehabilitation at Storm Eye Institute uses state-of-the-art technology and equipment to help patients regain some of the independence in their daily activities lowered vision can affect. After a comprehensive assessment, the team (including ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, occupational therapists, orientation and mobility specialists, social workers, and vision rehabilitation teachers) discusses which treatment options are most appropriate and establishes a plan of treatment, utilizing a variety of services and devices such as special lenses, magnifiers, video and computer-assisted technology and electro-optical displays.
The Feldberg Center for Vision Rehabilitation--Hilton Head is made possible through a gift from Theodora Feldberg and the generosity of the Low Vision Foundation of Hilton Head.
