CHARLESTON, SC -- Wilbur J. Prezzano Jr., was elected chairman of the Board of Directors of the Health Sciences Foundation at a recent meeting. The foundation supports educational, research, patient care and other programs of the Medical University of South Carolina. Prezzano, a native of Chappaqua, NY, now residing in Charleston (downtown), is retired as vice chairman of Eastman Kodak Company.
Burton R. Schools, of Charleston (29407), retired executive vice president, finance, of Piggly Wiggly Carolina, was elected vice chairman. Kenneth M. Evans, of Mt. Pleasant (29464), chairman and CEO of Lord & Evans Companies, was elected treasurer. Thomas P. Anderson, of Charleston (29407), chief executive officer for the Health Sciences Foundation, will serve as secretary.
Newly elected to the board for a three-year term was William A. Baker, Jr., of Kiawah Island (29455), a retired real estate developer from New York; Darla Moore, a Lake City (29560) native, is the chief executive officer of Rainwater, Inc.; Gerald A. Wilson, M.D., a native of Hartsville, practices general and peripheral vascular surgery with Midlands Surgical Associates, P.A. in Columbia; Anita G. Zucker, of Charleston (29407), is a businesswoman and former school teacher; and Champlin Sheridan, a resident of Seabrook Island (29455) and Baltimore, MD, is retired chairman and CEO of The Sheridan Group.
Re-elected as director for a second three-year term is Prezzano. Elected to serve one year of an existing term is Edwin S. Pearlstine Jr., of Charleston (29401), the retired founder and CEO of Pearlstine Distributors, Inc.; and to serve two years of an existing term is Arthur C. McFarland, Esquire, a native of Charleston (29403), Chief Municipal Court Judge for the City of Charleston and senior partner in the law firm of McFarland and O'Neill.
Dr. Cotesworth P. Fishburne, Jr., of Rock Hill (29732), was appointed by MUSC's Board of Trustees as one of the Board's three members on the Health Sciences Foundation.
Elected as emeritus members were William B. Hewitt, of Charleston (29401); Theodora L. Feldberg, of Hilton Head (29926); and Thomas Waring, Esquire, of Charleston (29401). Mr. William M. Matthew, of Charleston (29401), retired CEO of the foundation, was elected honorary emeritus.
