CHARLESTON -- To provide additional security for personal information maintained by MUSC, an identification number will replace Social Security numbers (SSN) for all existing MUSC employees, volunteers, contractors and long term visitors. The new ID number will be used for reporting and tracking purposes. The first phase of this process will start May 29.
The ID number will be assigned for the duration of an employeeÕs career and will be utilized for payroll, Human Resources forms where possible, parking management and most internal reporting. By itself, the number will not provide access to a staff memberÕs personal information should someone else acquire it. Some business processes and forms will still require employees to use SSNs.
The employee ID will be accessible to current employees through the MUSC website and new hires will received their ID number during their first week of employment. Timekeepers and business managers will be able to view the ID numbers of their staff via the employee directory database.
This initiative will be implemented in phases through the Identity Manager system. The human resources and payroll systems will be the first to be impacted, and others will be announced when preparations are complete.
