Kohl's, MUSC Childen's Hospital Announce New Program

CHARLESTON -- Kohl's Department Store, through the Kohl's Cares for Kids^ program, has donated $32,882 to MUSC Children's Hospital. The donations were collected from Kohl's stores located in Summerville and Myrtle Beach. Kohl's has gifted approximately $80,000 to the MUSC Childrens Hospital since 2004.

"Kohl's has been a great supporter of Childrens Hospitals and childrens health across the country. We are very fortunate to have such a great partner here in the Low Country," said John Sanders, Childrens Hospital administrator. "Along with the donations which allow us to continue programs and develop new ones to benefit our families, Kohl's A-team (employees volunteer group) volunteers on a regular basis to make many of our community outreach events a success."

This year's grant will be split ($16,441 per program) between Safe Kids and a new program, Kohl's Take a Minute for Kids. The Take a Minute for Kids radio campaign will offer parents and families in a ten-county region the latest pediatric health, safety and prevention information from the pediatric experts at MUSC Children's Hospital. The campaign will host monthly topics regarding pediatric issues pertinent to the season and/or month on Charlestons WSUY, 96.9 FM and Myrtle Beachs WMYB, 92.1 FM. To complement the radio campaign, the hospital will create a Kohl's Take a Minute for Kids Podcast Series and web page.

"Kohl's introduced the Kohl's Cares for Kids^ program to promote childrens health and educational opportunities, and is committed to playing an active role in the communities we serve," said Julie Gardner, senior vice president and chief brand officer of Kohl's Department Stores. "Were proud of the partnerships weve created with childrens hospitals across the country, and are excited to join MUSC Childrens Hospital in this endeavor."

Future topics for the series and radio segments include: signs of diabetes, burn prevention, motor vehicle injury prevention and safety, wellness and exercise, obesity, asthma, ATV safety, importance of wearing helmets, sports safety, and child-specific health care facilities. These segments will give Children's Hospital and Perinatal Services expert staff a chance to interface with communities, in addition to expanding MUSC Childrens Hospital community outreach efforts to the Myrtle Beach area.

Kohl's commitment to MUSC Childrens Hospital is made possible through the Kohl's Cares for Kids program, which raises funds for childrens health and educational opportunities through the sale of special gift items, most often a choice of an educational book or plush toy. Net profits from the sales go to support childrens health and educational opportunities in the market areas served by Kohl's. Kohl's community outreach also includes Kohl's Kids Who Care, an annual youth volunteer recognition program, fundraising gift cards for local schools and non-profit youth groups, as well as an associate program to encourage volunteerism.

Based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., Kohl's (NYSE: KSS) is a family-focused, value-oriented specialty department store offering moderately priced, exclusive and national brand apparel, shoes, accessories, beauty and home products in an exciting shopping environment. A company committed to the communities it serves, Kohl's operates 834 stores in 46 states and has raised more than $85 million for childrens initiatives nationwide through its Kohl's Cares for Kids philanthropic program.
